Not a big story in a game when 18th ranked Istanbul DSI (2-11) lost to thirteenth ranked Gelisim (5-8) in Izmir 72-87 on Friday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Gelisim's pressure prevailed and they won that period 24-11 extending their advantage to 15 points. Quite impressive performance for point guard Emir Gokalp (185-95, agency: Ali Guney BA) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. American point guard Kendall Anthony (173-93, college: Richmond) contributed with 21 points and 4 assists for the winners. Four Gelisim players scored in double figures. American point guard Derek Williams (185-85, college: SMU) answered with 27 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import forward Mikael Hopkins (206, college: Georgetown) added 13 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Istanbul DSI. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Gelisim moved-up to tenth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Istanbul DSI stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. Gelisim will face higher ranked Eskisehir Basket (#7) in Edirne in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Istanbul DSI will play at home against Pertevniyal (#8) and hope to win that game.
