There was no surprise when 7th ranked Galati (6-7) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Alba Iulia (8-4) 90-82 on Saturday. Galati trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 24-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 82-90 at the end of the game. Alba Iulia looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. FYR Macedonian Jelena Antic (187-91, college: Liberty) scored 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Mariah King (188-90, college: E.Illinois) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. American forward Cassie Rochel (193, college: Wisconsin) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Chrisstasia Walter (173-91, college: Louisiana Tech) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Alba Iulia moved-up to fourth place. Loser Galati keeps the seventh position with seven games lost. They share it with Alexandria. Alba Iulia will meet Timisoara (#9) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Galati will play against Satu Mare and hope to secure a win.
