Regular Season Round 14: Istanbul DSI - Pertevniyal 84-82

Bottom-ranked Istanbul DSI managed to get a third victory, breaking the two-game losing streak. This time they edged eighth-ranked Pertevniyal 84-82. Pertevniyal was ahead by 16 points after three quarters before a 32-14 charge of Istanbul DSI, which allowed them to win the game. They made 19-of-23 charity shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Istanbul DSI outrebounded Pertevniyal 41-28 including 27 on the defensive glass. American point guard Derek Williams (185-85, college: SMU) notched 28 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and the other American import forward Mikael Hopkins (206, college: Georgetown) supported him with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Even 29 points and 6 rebounds by American guard Elijah Johnson (190-90, college: Kansas) did not help to save the game for Pertevniyal. Berk Demir (203-95) added 11 points and 4 steals for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Istanbul DSI (3-11) moved-up to seventeenth place, which they share with Bandirma Kir. Pertevniyal lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with seven games lost. Istanbul DSI will play against higher ranked Meliksah (#11) in Kayseri in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Pertevniyal will play on the road against Gelisim in Izmir and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
