Regular Season Round 18: P.Zvaigzdes - Zalgiris 71-88

LKL top team - Zalgiris (15-1) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they beat seventh ranked P.Zvaigzdes (5-10) in Pasvalys 88-71. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris. P.Zvaigzdes managed to win second period 24-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 22-of-24 free shots (91.7 percent) during the game, while P.Zvaigzdes only scored five points from the stripe. The former international point guard Mantas Kalnietis (195-86, agency: Interperformances) notched 14 points and 5 assists to lead the effort and the former international Paulius Jankunas (205-84) supported him with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Five Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Zalgiris' coach Gintaras Krapikas used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 21 points and 6 assists by American point guard Derrick Low (191-86, college: Washington St.) did not help to save the game for P.Zvaigzdes. The former international swingman Steponas Babrauskas (197-84) added 11 points and 5 rebounds. Zalgiris have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 15-1 record. Loser P.Zvaigzdes dropped to the ninth place with ten games lost. Zalgiris will meet at home Juventus (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. P.Zvaigzdes will play against Lietkabelis (#7) in Panevezys and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
