Regular Season Round 15: Akhisar Bld - Denizli 74-87

Date: January 3, 2016
There was no surprise when 9th ranked Akhisar Bld (6-9) was defeated at home by third ranked Denizli (11-4) 87-74 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Denizli. Akhisar Bld was better in third quarter 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Akhisar Bld was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American point guard Kenny Boynton (188-91, college: Florida) who scored 41 points (!!!) and 6 assists. His fellow American import center Hilton Armstrong (210-84, college: Connecticut) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward D.J. Shelton (208-91, college: Washington St.) who recorded 15 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Erdem Ilter (188-90, agency: Ali Guney BA) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Four Akhisar Bld players scored in double figures. Akhisar Bld's coach Zafer Aktas rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Denizli maintains third place with 11-4 record having four points less than leader Tofas, which they share with Sakarya BSB and Gediz. Akhisar Bld lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with nine games lost. Denizli will face Bandirma Kir. (#16) in Balikesir in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Akhisar Bld will play on the road against Istanbul DSI (#18) and hope to win that game.
