The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Istanbul: Fenerbahce (#4) and Istanbul Uni (#6). Istanbul Uni was crushed at home by 46 points 48-94 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Fenerbahce dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Istanbul Uni's 18. They outrebounded Istanbul Uni 45-20 including a 34-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Fenerbahce looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Istanbul Uni's players. The former international center Quanitra Hollingsworth (196-88, college: VCU) stepped up and scored 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and Belarusian center Anastasiya Veremeenko (194-87) chipped in 6 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. At the losing side Bosnian-Serbian guard Sasa Cado (178-89) responded with 18 points and Montenegrin forward Milka Bjelica (193-81) scored 7 points and 11 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Fenerbahce (9-4) moved-up to third place, which they share with Mersin and Hatay. Istanbul Uni lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with six games lost. They share it with Canik Bld. Fenerbahce is looking forward to face Edirne (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Istanbul Uni will play against Besiktas (#10) in Istanbul and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
