Regular Season Round 15: Gelisim - Pertevniyal 100-88

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Izmir where ninth ranked Gelisim (7-8) won against 8th ranked Pertevniyal (7-8) 100-88 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Gelisim. Pertevniyal was better in third quarter 19-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Pertevniyal 42-29 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was point guard Emir Gokalp (185-95, agency: Ali Guney BA) who scored 23 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. American center Marvin Jefferson (206-86, college: Idaho) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Elijah Johnson (190-90, college: Kansas) who recorded 34 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Berk Demir (203-95) added 29 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pertevniyal's coach Bilal Han Duru let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Gelisim have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Pertevniyal. Pertevniyal lost fourth consecutive game. Gelisim will face Mamak DSI (#10) in Ankara in the next round.
