Regular Season Round 22: Kibirkstis-VICI - Aistes-LSU 73-52

Round 22 in LMKL means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Vilnius where host Kibirkstis-VICI (10-3) crushed league's leader Aistes-LSU (2-11) 73-52 on Tuesday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Kibirkstis-VICI. Aistes-LSU managed to win third quarter 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Aistes-LSU to just 6 points in first quarter. Kibirkstis-VICI dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Aistes-LSU's 28. Kibirkstis-VICI forced 25 Aistes-LSU turnovers and outrebounded them 51-33 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Kibirkstis-VICI made 9 blocks. Center Daugile Sarauskaite (196-96) fired a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. American forward Shenita Landry (188-87, college: Temple, agency: Two Points) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. Four Kibirkstis-VICI players scored in double figures. Forward Jolanta Marmiene (181-79) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and Helma Vysniauskaite (182-98) added 17 points and 5 rebounds (made all of her eight free throws) respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Kibirkstis-VICI moved-up to third place. Aistes-LSU lost eighth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with 11 games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Utena. Aistes-LSU will play next round against strong Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas trying to make it back to the top of the standings. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kaunas - Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas. Kibirkstis-VICI will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
