Regular Season Round 23: Suduva - Utena 72-64

LMKL round 23 caused change at the leadership position. Second defeat of league's leader Utena (11-2) against second ranked Suduva (12-2) 72-64 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the 12-game winning streak of Utena. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Utena won fourth quarter 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Suduva dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Utena's 26. Suduva forced 20 Utena turnovers. Forward Sandra Baliutaviciute (182-81) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points and 6 rebounds. The former international guard Andra Andra Gabalyte (182-80, college: Liberty) contributed with 16 points and 4 assists for the winners. Point guard Rita Milieskiene (175-78) answered with 16 points and 6 rebounds and the former international point guard Rima Valentiene (170-78) added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Utena. Utena's coach Alfredas Vainauskas rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Suduva keeps a position of league leader. Defending champion Utena dropped to the second place with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Suduva. Utena will play next round against Fortuna trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Suduva will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
