Regular Season Round 14: Spartak Pleven - Akademik PL 93-84

No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Spartak Pleven (8-6) beat at home 8th ranked Academik Plovdiv (2-12) 93-84 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-18. But Academik Plovdiv won second period 21-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Spartak Pleven looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Power forward Dimitar Marincheshki (200-90) notched a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and Montenegrin-Serbian center Milovan Savic (205-87) supported him with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Five Spartak Pleven players scored in double figures. Even 24 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) by Serbian power forward Bosko Jovovic (205-83) did not help to save the game for Academik Plovdiv. Swingman Nikola Traykov (197-85, college: Bloomsburg) added 20 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Academik Plovdiv's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Spartak Pleven moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Cherno More. Academik Plovdiv lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Yambol and Chernomorets. Spartak Pleven will meet higher ranked Beroe (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Academik Plovdiv will play against Levski 2014 (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
