Date: January 10, 2016
Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Speyer / Schifferstadt (9-4) outleveled on the road 11th ranked Homburger TG (2-11) 95-73. The game without a history. Speyer / Schifferstadt led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 20-of-26 charity shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Speyer / Schifferstadt outrebounded Homburger TG 37-21 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 61.9 percentage. 24 personal fouls committed by Homburger TG helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Forward Uta Gelbke (177-86) nailed 41 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds for the winning side and Canadian forward Kathryn Verboom (179-86) accounted for 19 points. Four Speyer / Schifferstadt players scored in double figures. American guard Chelsea Meeks (165-92) came up with 30 points and 5 assists (made all of her fourteen free throws !!!) and Tunisian center Mariem Ouertani (184-87) added 14 points respectively for Homburger TG in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Speyer / Schifferstadt moved-up to third place in South. Newly promoted Homburger TG keeps the eleventh position with 11 games lost. Speyer / Schifferstadt's next round opponent will be Ladybaskets Wuerzburg (#9) at home which should be theoretically another easy game. Homburger TG will play against Karlsruhe PS and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
