Regular Season Round 21: Zalgiris - Vytautas 94-77

LKL top team - Zalgiris (18-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they beat fifth ranked Vytautas (9-10) in Kaunas 94-77. It looked good early as Vytautas took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Zalgiris had a 23-15 second period charge getting the lead and Vytautas was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 77-94. Zalgiris dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Vytautas' 36. They outrebounded Vytautas 46-26 including a 20-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Zalgiris players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international Paulius Jankunas (205-84) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. Australian power forward Brock Motum (208-90, college: Washington St.) chipped in 17 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Zalgiris' coach Sarunas Jasikevicius used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Vytautas Sulskis (200-88, college: Youngstown St., agency: Octagon Europe) who recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and forward Laimonas Kisielius (203-85, college: William & Mary) added 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Zalgiris have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 18-1 record. Vytautas at the other side keeps the fifth position with ten games lost. Zalgiris' next round opponent will be league's second-placed Lietuvos rytas in Vilnius and it will be for sure the game of the week. Vytautas will play at home against Juventus and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
