Regular Season Round 25: Suduva-Mantinga - Mazeikiai 82-52

There was a change at the NKL leadership position after last games. Round 25 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Mazeikiai (20-5). They were crushed by second ranked Suduva-Mantinga (21-4) 82-52 on Friday night. It ended at the same time the 12-game winning streak of Mazeikiai. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game without a history. Suduva-Mantinga led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game, while Mazeikiai only scored two points from the stripe. Suduva-Mantinga forced 19 Mazeikiai turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Suduva-Mantinga made 8 blocks. Forward Donatas Sabeckis (197-92) stepped up and scored 25 points for the winners and the former international Aurimas Kieza (202-82, college: Hofstra) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side swingman Vytautas Pikalavicius (197-90) responded with 9 points and 13 rebounds and guard Sarunas Vingelis (192-89) scored 12 points. Suduva-Mantinga have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Mazeikiai at the other side dropped to the second place with five games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Suduva-Mantinga. There is only one round left in the Regular Season. And it will be most important game for Mazeikiai this season. They will face Palanga trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Suduva-Mantinga will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Nafta-Uni. in Klaipeda.
