Not a big story in a game when 12th ranked Recklinghausen (3-12) was defeated at home by eighth ranked Itzehoe (8-7) 87-71 on Saturday. Recklinghausen was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was swingman Adrian Breitlauch (193-93) who scored 16 points and 7 assists. American power forward Stephan Shepherd (206-92, college: Bened.-Springfield) chipped in 18 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Robert Franklin (195-81, college: N.Mexico Highlands) who recorded 16 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import guard Cavel Witter (183-87, college: Creighton) added 20 points respectively. Four Recklinghausen players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Itzehoe moved-up to sixth place in North, which they share with Bochum. Loser Recklinghausen keeps the twelfth position with 12 games lost. Itzehoe will face higher ranked Herzoege Wolfenbuettel (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Recklinghausen will play against the league's second-placed Oldenburg (#2) and hope to win that game.
