There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Elazig (4-8) defeated at home 7th ranked Mersin Uni (5-7) 62-57 on Monday. Elazig had a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for American power forward Sharon Houston (191-88, college: Indiana NW) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 21 rebounds and 5 assists. Ozge Karatas (-96) contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for the winners. Ukrainian center Olena Staschuk (192-85) replied with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Gizem Kumandanoglu (-94) added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Mersin Uni. Elazig moved-up to eighth place in Group B, which they share with Alanya Bld and Urla BLD. Loser Mersin Uni keeps the seventh position with seven games lost. Elazig will have a break next round.
