Very expected game when 7th ranked Mersin Uni (5-8) was defeated at home by second ranked Osmaniye (10-3) 72-63 on Friday. Osmaniye dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Mersin Uni's 24. Osmaniye forced 21 Mersin Uni turnovers and had a 20-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Chilean center Ziomara Morrison (193-89) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and guard Kubra Erat (169-95) chipped in 19 points and 4 assists. Osmaniye's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. At the losing side Ukrainian center Olena Staschuk (192-85) responded with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 19 rebounds and 4 blocks and Gizem Kumandanoglu (-94) scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Osmaniye. They maintain second place in Group B with 10-3 record having just one point less than leader Ormanspor. Mersin Uni lost their third game in a row. They keep the seventh position with eight games lost. Osmaniye will face TED Ankara (#5) at home in the next round. Mersin Uni will play against Bursa BSB and hope to win that game.
