Second Stage Round 1: Vytis - Zalgiris II 93-87

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Vytis (20-7) beat 6th ranked Zalgiris II (14-13) in Sakiai 93-87 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 33-23 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Vytis forced 21 Zalgiris II turnovers. Strangely Zalgiris II outrebounded Vytis 31-15 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for guard Paulius Beliavicius (194-88) who led his team to a victory with 23 points and 6 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Guard Ignas Vaitkus (183-98) contributed with 25 points for the winners. Power forward Martynas Echodas (204-97) answered with 19 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Paulius Valinskas (190-95) added 17 points in the effort for Zalgiris II. Five Vytis and four Zalgiris II players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Vytis have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They maintain third place with 20-7 record having just one point less than leader Suduva-Mantinga. Loser Zalgiris II keeps the sixth position with 13 games lost. Vytis will face Telsiai (#7) in Telsiu in the next round. Zalgiris II will play at home against Perlas-MRU and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
