Not a big story in a game when 12th ranked BBC Bayreuth (7-12) was defeated at home by tenth ranked Phoenix Hagen (10-9) 93-88 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-12. But BBC Bayreuth won second period 24-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Americans were the main players on the court. D.J. Covington (203-91, college: VMI) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Brandon Jefferson (175-91, college: Metro St., agency: Two Points) chipped in 20 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Guard Jake Odum (193-91, college: Indiana St.) produced 29 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Travis Leslie (193-90, college: Georgia) added 16 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. BBC Bayreuth's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Phoenix Hagen moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Braunschweig. Loser BBC Bayreuth keeps the twelfth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Telekom Bsk. Phoenix Hagen will meet at home higher ranked ratiopharm Ulm (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. BBC Bayreuth will play against Deutsche Bank Skyliners (#4) in Frankfurt and hope to secure a win.
