Regular Season Round 24: P.Zvaigzdes - Lietuvos rytas 81-77

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Lietuvos rytas (18-4) against ninth ranked P.Zvaigzdes (7-14) on Sunday night. Visiting Lietuvos rytas was defeated by P.Zvaigzdes in a tough game in Pasvalys 77-81. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lietuvos rytas. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-17. But Lietuvos rytas won second period 19-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. P.Zvaigzdes forced 19 Lietuvos rytas turnovers. Strangely Lietuvos rytas outrebounded P.Zvaigzdes 37-18 including a 25-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Derrick Low (191-86, college: Washington St.) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 5 assists and the former international swingman Steponas Babrauskas (197-84) who added 14 points during the contest. Five P.Zvaigzdes players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international center Antanas Kavaliauskas (208-84, college: Texas A&M, agency: Interperformances) with 16 points and 5 rebounds and American point guard Ken Brown (180-89, college: Philander Smith) scored 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Lietuvos rytas' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. P.Zvaigzdes moved-up to eighth place. Lietuvos rytas at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. P.Zvaigzdes will play against higher ranked Vytautas (#6) in Prienai in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Lietuvos rytas will play on the road against Juventus (#4) in Utena and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
