Regular Season Round 17: Phoenix Galati - Gaz Metan 80-72

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Gaz Metan (2-15) was defeated on the road by tenth ranked Phoenix Galati (7-10) 80-72 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 25-15 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Phoenix Galati forced 21 Gaz Metan turnovers. Gaz Metan was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Serbian forward Milos Pesic (205-84, agency: 011 Sports) who scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Serbian swingman Milos Bojovic (198-81, agency: 011 Sports) chipped in 15 points and 5 assists. The former international center Ionut Dragusin (221-85) produced 19 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) and Lithuanian point guard Gediminas Navickas (180-84) added 11 points and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Five Phoenix Galati and four Gaz Metan players scored in double figures. Phoenix Galati moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Pitesti. Gaz Metan lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Phoenix Galati will face higher ranked CSU Sibiu (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gaz Metan will play against BC Timisoara (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
