Regular Season Round 25: Juventus - Lietuvos rytas 92-88 OT

Juventus (12-11) outlasted Lietuvos rytas (18-5) in overtime by four points 92-88 on Sunday night. Lietuvos rytas trailed by 15 points at halftime and as many as 19 after three quarters before a 32-13 last quarter charge cut the deficit to tie the game 74-74 at the end of regular time. But then they lost overtime period 14-18. Juventus dominated on the defensive end, holding Lietuvos rytas to just 7 points in second quarter. They also forced 21 Lietuvos rytas turnovers. Lietuvos rytas was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American swingman Spencer Butterfield (190-92, college: Utah St., agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) stepped up and scored 26 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and naturalized Swiss guard Rolandas Alijevas (192-85) chipped in 12 points, 7 assists and 5 steals. Four Juventus players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international center Antanas Kavaliauskas (208-84, college: Texas A&M, agency: Interperformances) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and international Adas Juskevicius (194-89) scored 18 points. Lietuvos rytas' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Juventus maintains third place with 12-11 record having nine points less than leader Zalgiris. Lietuvos rytas at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. Juventus will face P.Zvaigzdes (#9) in Pasvalys in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Lietuvos rytas will play on the road against Dzukija (#10) in Alytus and hope to win that game.
