Regular Season Round 23: Wels - Kapfenberg 88-79

Date: February 6, 2016
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 7th ranked Kapfenberg Bulls (10-13) were defeated on the road by eighth ranked Raiffeisen Wels (10-13) 88-79 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 10-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 88-79. Raiffeisen Wels made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. Raiffeisen Wels outrebounded Kapfenberg Bulls 42-27 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Kapfenberg Bulls' players. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Lorenzo O'Neal (188-88) who had a double-double by scoring 12 points, 5 rebounds and 14 assists. American forward Will Carter (200-88, college: San Jose St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. American point guard Reger Dowell (185-91, college: Texas Arlington) produced 27 points and 5 assists and international Filip Kramer (202-92) added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Five Raiffeisen Wels and four Kapfenberg Bulls players scored in double figures. Raiffeisen Wels have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Kapfenberg Bulls. Raiffeisen Wels will face bottom-ranked UBSC Graz (#10) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Kapfenberg Bulls will play against Vienna (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
