Regular Season Round 18: Rilski - Beroe 85-75

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Samokov where one of their biggest challengers Beroe (12-6) was defeated by fourth ranked Rilski (12-6) 85-75 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 85-75. Rilski made 26-of-33 free shots (78.8 percent) during the game, while Beroe only scored eight points from the stripe. Beroe was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. American power forward Tony Gugino (207-86, college: Hillsdale) had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import point guard Frank Turner (178-88, college: Canisius, agency: Inception Sports) chipped in 24 points and 5 assists (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!) during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international Tihomir Zhelev (193-90) with 18 points and Bosnian power forward Aleksandar Todorovic (206-87) scored 9 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rilski have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Beroe.
