Regular Season Round 17: Speyer - Bamberg 71-78

The game between second ranked Speyer / Schifferstadt (11-6) and fifth ranked Don Bosco Bamberg (10-7) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Speyer / Schifferstadt was defeated by Don Bosco Bamberg in a tough game in Dudenhofen 71-78. Speyer / Schifferstadt was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 22-14 charge of Don Bosco Bamberg, which allowed them to win the game. They made 23-of-26 free shots (88.5 percent) during the game. American center Miranda Cantrell (183-93, college: Jacksonville St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds. Latvian guard Ieva Jansone (180-90, college: Valparaiso) contributed with 11 points for the winners. Four Don Bosco Bamberg players scored in double figures. Don Bosco Bamberg's coach Ulf Schabacker used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Jennifer Mocanu (172-90) answered with 21 points and 4 assists and Canadian forward Kathryn Verboom (179-86) added 15 points in the effort for Speyer / Schifferstadt. Don Bosco Bamberg moved-up to fourth place in South, which they share with Jahn Muenchen. Speyer / Schifferstadt at the other side dropped to the third position with six games lost. Don Bosco Bamberg is looking forward to face Karlsruhe PS (#12) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Speyer / Schifferstadt will play against Wasserburg II (#8) and is hoping to win this game.
