Regular Season Round 18: Canik Bld - Edirne 87-84

Thirteenth-ranked Edirne (4-14) was very close to win a game against seventh ranked Canik Bld (9-9) in Samsun on Sunday. Canik Bld managed to secure only three-point victory 87-84. However their fans expected much easier game. Canik Bld looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. It was a good game for American point guard Natasha Lacy (178-85, college: UTEP) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 6 rebounds and 15 assists. The other American import guard Essence Carson (183-86, college: Rutgers) contributed with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Ukrainian Olesia Malashenko (191-91, agency: LBM Management) replied with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and American center Stefanie Dolson (196-92, college: Connecticut) added 20 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Edirne. Five Canik Bld and four Edirne players scored in double figures. Canik Bld moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Istanbul Univ. Edirne lost seventh consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with 14 games lost. Canik Bld will face higher ranked Mersin (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Edirne will play against Gelistirenler (#9) and hope to win that game.
