Regular Season Round 16: Khimik - Cherkasy 62-67

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Khimik (18-3) in Yuzhny on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Cherkasy (14-8) 67-62. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Khimik. The guests trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 22-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Cherkasy dominated on the defensive end, holding Khimik to just 6 points in third quarter. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Denis Noskov (202-90) who helped to win the game recording 9 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international Klym Artamonov (186-93) who added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Four Cherkasy players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international forward Vladimir Konev (201-89) responded with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and American point guard Branden Frazier (190-92, college: Fordham) scored 13 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Cherkasy have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 14-8 record. Defending champion Khimik still keeps top place with three games lost. Cherkasy are looking forward to face Infiz Basket (#8) in Kyiv in the next round. Khimik will play on the road against Bipa Basket (#5) in Odessa and is hoping to win this game.
