Second Stage Round 6: Suduva-Mantinga - Zalgiris II 73-67

NKL top team - Suduva-Mantinga (26-5) added another victory to their record. This time they beat fifth ranked Zalgiris II (17-14) in Marijampole 73-67. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Zalgiris II. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-12. But Zalgiris II won second period 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international Aurimas Kieza (202-82, college: Hofstra) had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Donatas Sabeckis (197-92) chipped in 13 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was swingman Martynas Varnas (196-97) with 23 points and 6 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and Paulius Valinskas (190-95) scored 9 points and 6 assists. Zalgiris II's coach Tomas Masiulis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Suduva-Mantinga maintains first position with 26-5 record. Zalgiris II at the other side keeps the fifth place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Palanga. Suduva-Mantinga will play against Telsiai (#9) in Telsiu in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Zalgiris II will play at home against Mazeikiai (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
