Regular Season Round 19: Mersin - Canik Bld 83-72

Rather predictable result when fourth ranked Mersin (14-5) defeated at home 7th ranked Canik Bld (9-10) 83-72 on Sunday. Mersin looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a great evening for Angel McCoughtry (187-86, college: Louisville) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds. Center Aneika Henry (193-86, college: Florida) helped adding 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side point guard Natasha Lacy (178-85, college: UTEP) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 8 rebounds, 12 assists and 6 steals and guard Essence Carson (183-86, college: Rutgers) scored 22 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Mersin. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Hatay. Loser Canik Bld keeps the seventh position with ten games lost. Mersin will face Gelistirenler (#10) in Istanbul in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Canik Bld will play at home against Botas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
