Regular Season Round 23: Heidelberg - Baunach 90-94

We should mention about the upset which took place in Heidelberg, where 8th ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (11-11) lost at home to eleventh ranked Baunach (11-12) 90-94 on Friday. Baunach looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. It was a great evening for Johannes Thiemann (203-94) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 13 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). American forward Jordan Dumars (195-91, college: Michigan) helped adding 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Baunach players scored in double figures. American point guard Bryan Smithson (183-85, college: NC-Asheville) responded with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 11 assists and Croatian guard Hrvoje Kovacevic (190-86) scored 15 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Baunach moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Chemnitz. Loser MLP Academics Heidelberg keeps the eighth position with 11 games lost. Baunach will meet at home higher ranked Kirchheim Knights (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. MLP Academics Heidelberg will play against the league's leader Science City Jena (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
