Regular Season Round 22: Balikesir - Gelisim 88-78

Rather expected game when 9th ranked Gelisim (10-12) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Balikesir (14-8) 88-78. It looked good early as Gelisim took a 10-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Balikesir took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 10 points. They outrebounded Gelisim 40-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. Balikesir players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. It was a very good performance for power forward Ali Isik (206-90) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 9 rebounds. American point guard D.J. Thompson (173-85, college: Appalachian St.) contributed with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Balikesir's coach Mete Babaoglu allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American center Marvin Jefferson (206-86, college: Idaho) replied with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds and Dorukhan Engindeniz (-92) added 21 points in the effort for Gelisim. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Balikesir maintains sixth position with 14-8 record. Gelisim at the other side dropped to the eighth place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Afyon. Balikesir will play against Final Genclik (#16) in Bursa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gelisim will play at home against the league's leader Tofas (#1) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
