Regular Season Round 18: Fenerbahce - Mersin Gelisim 53-64

Everything went according to plan when eighth ranked Mersin Gelisim (8-10) defeated 10th ranked Fenerbahce (5-13) in Istanbul 64-53 on Friday. They outrebounded Fenerbahce 49-31 including 18 on the offensive glass. It was a good game for American center Leeza Burdgess (194-90, college: La Salle) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds. Forward Doga Comba (185-94) contributed with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Point guard Melisa Korkmaz (172-97) replied with 23 points and 5 assists and center Hulya Coklar (188-95) added 8 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Fenerbahce. Fenerbahce's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Mersin Gelisim have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place in Group A, which they share with Anadolu Univ. Loser Fenerbahce keeps the tenth position with 13 games lost. Mersin Gelisim will face higher ranked Nevsehir Uni (#6) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Fenerbahce will play against Yalova Vip (#5) and hope to win that game.
