Regular Season Round 23: Gelisim - Tofas 80-78

The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Tofas (22-1) in Izmir on Friday night. Visitors were edged by ninth ranked Gelisim (11-12) 80-78. It ended at the same time the 22-game winning streak of Tofas. Tofas was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Point guard Emir Gokalp (185-95, agency: Ali Guney BA) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. American center Marvin Jefferson (206-86, college: Idaho) contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Five Gelisim players scored in double figures. The former international point guard Baris Ermis (194-85) answered with 29 points and 7 assists and Dominican-American guard Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul) added 19 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Tofas. Tofas' coach Orhun Ene rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gelisim moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Afyon. Tofas at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Gelisim is looking forward to face Final Genclik (#15) in Bursa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tofas will play on the road against Afyon (#8) in Afyonkarahisar and is hoping to win this game.
