Regular Season Round 25: Nuernberg - Baunach 73-80

There was a small surprise in Nurnberg where tenth ranked Baunach (12-13) beat 7th ranked Nuernberg (13-12) 80-73 on Saturday. Nuernberg was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 23-13 charge of Baunach, which allowed them to win the game. Johannes Thiemann (203-94) stepped up and scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and Lithuanian Arnoldas Kulboka (206-98) chipped in 21 points. At the losing side American forward Dan Oppland (203-84, college: Valparaiso) responded with 13 points and the other American import point guard Darius Theus (190-90, college: VCU) scored 9 points and 5 assists. Nuernberg's coach Ralph Junge rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Baunach moved-up to ninth place. Nuernberg at the other side keeps the seventh position with 12 games lost. Baunach will face Bayer Giants (#15) in Leverkusen in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
