Regular Season Round 20: BG 89 Avides - Oberhausen 77-55
Date: February 28, 2016
There was no surprise when 11th ranked Oberhausen (4-16) was crushed on the road by seventh ranked Rotenburg/Scheessel (9-11) 77-55. The game was mostly controlled by Rotenburg/Scheessel. Oberhausen was better in second period 20-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Oberhausen to just 4 points in first quarter. Rotenburg/Scheessel had a 37-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Oberhausen's players. The winners were led by American power forward Kierra Mallard (188-90, college: Texas Tech) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 27 points, 17 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field) and the former international guard Pia Mankertz (170-90) supported her with 13 points and 5 assists. Rotenburg/Scheessel's coach Tomas Holesovsky felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 19 points and 9 rebounds by American guard Jylisa Williams (176-89, college: Georgia St.) did not help to save the game for Oberhausen. Her fellow American import forward Melissa Williams (185, college: E.Washington) added 8 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Rotenburg/Scheessel maintains seventh position with 9-11 record. Oberhausen lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth place with 16 games lost. Rotenburg/Scheessel's next round opponent will be league's second-placed TV Saarlouis Royals on the road and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Oberhausen will play against Eisvogel Freiburg (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
