Regular Season Round 27: Vienna - Gmunden 90-88

Ninth-ranked Gmunden Swans (10-17) were very close to win a game against third ranked Vienna (15-11) in Wien. Vienna managed to secure only two-point victory 90-88. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Strangely Gmunden Swans outrebounded Vienna 40-26 including 26 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Stjepan Stazic (199-78) who scored 23 points and 7 assists. American-Bahamas forward Jonathan Fairell (201-93, college: Murray St., agency: Duran International) chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was international point guard Daniel Friedrich (181-92) who recorded 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Canadian center Chris McLaughlin (208-92) added 16 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Vienna maintains third place with 15-11 record having eight points less than leader Gussing. Gmunden Swans at the other side keep the ninth position with 17 games lost. Vienna's next round opponent will be Dukes (#8) in Klosterneuburg which should be theoretically an easy game. Gmunden Swans will play at home against Kapfenberg Bulls and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
