Regular Season Round 19: Cherkasy - VolinBasket 88-90

A very interesting game took place in Cherkasy. It ended with only two-point home defeat of 4th placed Cherkasy (16-11) to eighth ranked VolinBasket (4-22) 90-88 on Friday evening. Cherkasy was ahead by 4 points at the halftime before a 25-19 third quarter run of VolinBasket. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. 27 personal fouls committed by Cherkasy helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Nikola Polyulyak (192-90) who helped to win the game recording 27 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Ivan Timoschuk contributed with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Naturalized Moldovan center Stanislav Zavadsky (213-87) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and international forward Alexander Sizov (199-88) added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Cherkasy. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted VolinBasket maintains eighth place with 4-22 record. Cherkasy lost their third game in a row. They keep the fourth position with 11 games lost. VolinBasket's next round opponent will be higher ranked Bipa Basket (#7) in Odessa and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cherkasy will play at home against Mykolaiv and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
