The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Mersin: Mersin Basketbal (#1) and Mersin Uni (#6). Mersin Basketbal (17-2) crushed visiting Mersin Uni (8-11) by 19 points 75-56. They outrebounded Mersin Uni 50-36 including a 38-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Mersin Basketbal looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for Nigerian-American center Aisha Mohammed (191-85, college: Virginia) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Harika Eldas (182-90) helped adding 18 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side Ukrainian center Olena Staschuk (192-85) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds (made all of her eight free throws) and Gizem Kumandanoglu (-94) scored 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. Mersin Uni's coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Mersin Basketbal maintains first place in Group B with 17-2 record. Mersin Uni at the other side keeps the sixth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Nevsehir GHSIM. Mersin Basketbal are looking forward to face TED Ankara (#4) on the road in the next round. Mersin Uni will play against Cankaya and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
