Regular Season Round 29: Vienna - Wels 82-80

Date: March 6, 2016
Sixth-ranked Raiffeisen Wels (12-17) made lots of trouble for third ranked Vienna (16-12) in Wien on Sunday. Vienna managed to secure only two-point victory 82-80. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 26-20. But Raiffeisen Wels won second period 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vienna made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. Strangely Raiffeisen Wels outrebounded Vienna 34-21 including a 25-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Serbian point guard Bogic Vujosevic (189-92, agency: Octagon Europe) who scored 26 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. The former international Jason Detrick (195-80, college: Oklahoma, agency: Three Eye Sports) chipped in 21 points. American forward Will Carter (200-88, college: San Jose St.) produced 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and guard Thomas Csebits (186-89) added 17 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Raiffeisen Wels' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vienna maintains third place with 16-12 record having nine points less than leader Gussing. Raiffeisen Wels at the other side dropped to the seventh position with 17 games lost. They share it with Gmunden. Vienna are looking forward to face league's leader Gussing Knights at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Raiffeisen Wels will play against Furstenfeld Panthers (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
