Regular Season Round 19: Mykolaiv - VolinBasket 85-74

Rather expected game when 8th ranked VolinBasket (4-22) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Mykolaiv (12-14) 85-74 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 85-74. Mykolaiv looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Mykolaiv made 8 blocks. It was a great evening for swingman Denis Ivanov (195-78) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 7 assists. Guard Oleksandr Shostuha (193-84) helped adding 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Mykolaiv players scored in double figures. At the losing side Ivan Timoschuk responded with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and American Hakeem Jackson (206, college: Livingstone) scored 19 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Mykolaiv maintains fifth place with 12-14 record. Newly promoted VolinBasket keeps the eighth position with 22 games lost. Mykolaiv will face higher ranked Cherkasy (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. VolinBasket will play against Bipa Basket (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
