Regular Season Round 19: Khimik - Zaporizhya 74-72

Sixth-ranked Zaporizhya (11-17) gave a tough game to second ranked Khimik (21-3) in Yuzhny on Sunday. Khimik managed to secure only two-point victory 74-72. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 21-13 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Khimik had a 27-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American point guard Branden Frazier (190-92, college: Fordham) fired 24 points for the winners. The former international forward Vladimir Konev (201-89) chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds. Khimik's coach Oleg Yushkin used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Anton Buts (201-88) produced 19 points and 8 rebounds and guard Stanislav Ovdeyenko (191-84) added 20 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. The victory was the third consecutive win for Khimik. Defending champion maintains second place with 21-3 record behind leader SC Kryvbas. Zaporizhya at the other side keeps the sixth position with 17 games lost. They share it with Bipa Basket. Khimik will meet VolinBasket (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Zaporizhya will play against Dynamo and hope to secure a win.
