Second Stage Round 7: Academia - Ginasio 93-78

There was a surprise result in Lisboa where sixteenth ranked Academia (3-8) defeated higher ranked Ginasio (6-5) 93-78 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 14-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 93-78. Academia outrebounded Ginasio 42-27 including a 20-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Angolan forward Benedito Suca (196-84) fired a double-double by scoring 29 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Guard Nuno Monteiro (180-86) chipped in 29 points and 4 assists. The former international center Marco Goncalves (206-84) produced 30 points and Bernardo Neves (192-96) added 17 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Ginasio players scored in double figures. Academia maintains sixteenth place in Places 9-16 with 3-8 record. Loser Ginasio dropped to the twelfth position with five games lost. Academia will face higher ranked Esgueira / Oli (#9) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
