Rather predictable result in Lisboa where thirteenth ranked Guifoes (6-6) beat bottom-ranked Academia (3-8) 78-72 on Sunday. Academia was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 8-point lead after three quarters before a 27-13 charge of Guifoes, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Academia outrebounded Guifoes 38-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. Swingman Pedro Meireless (193-95) fired 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Goncalo Madureira (182-98) chipped in 18 points. Guifoes' coach Nuno Filipe Gomes Freitas used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Angolan forward Benedito Suca (196-84) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds and forward Carlos Tavares (194-84) added 15 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Academia players scored in double figures. Guifoes maintains thirteenth place in Places 9-16 with 6-6 record. Loser Academia stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Guifoes will face Estoril Basket (#15) at home in the next round. Academia will play against Esgueira / Oli and hope to win that game.
