Date: March 16, 2016
Very expected game when 6th ranked Istanbul Uni (11-11) was crushed on the road by second ranked Hatay (17-5) 87-59 on Wednesday. Hatay outrebounded Istanbul Uni 44-33 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hatay made 7 blocks. Hungarian power forward Anna Vajda (191-84, agency: Josep and Nicolas) scored 17 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American center Courtney Paris (191-87, college: Oklahoma) chipped in 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Four Hatay players scored in double figures. At the losing side Ukrainian-Bulgarian center Viktoria Mircheva (190-87, agency: Josep and Nicolas) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and American power forward Elizabeth Williams (190-93, college: Duke) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hatay have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 17-5 record behind leader Fenerbahce. Loser Istanbul Uni keeps the sixth place with 11 games lost. Hatay will face Abdullah Gul (#4) in Kayseri in the next round. Istanbul Uni's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Istanbul Gelistirenler.
