Tenth-ranked White Wings (13-16) gave a tough game to first ranked Science City Jena (26-3) in Hanau on Saturday. The visitors from Jena managed to secure only one-point victory 70-69. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of White Wings. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Science City Jena forced 20 White Wings turnovers. Strangely White Wings outrebounded Science City Jena 35-20 including a 35-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Americans were the main players on the court. Guard Marcos Knight (188-89, college: Middle Tenn.St.) stepped up and scored 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and guard Wayne Bernard (190-81, college: Davidson) chipped in 12 points. Guard Luke Loucks (196-90, college: Florida St.) responded with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Kruize Pinkins (201-93, college: USF) scored 8 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Science City Jena have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 26-3 record. Newly promoted White Wings dropped to the seventh position with 16 games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Science City Jena are looking forward to face Oettinger Rockets Gotha (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day.
