There was a small surprise when seventeenth ranked Istanbul DSI (7-20) defeated at home 15th ranked Final Genclik (9-18) 83-73 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Istanbul DSI. Final Genclik was better in third quarter 16-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Istanbul DSI won last quarter 22-14. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Istanbul DSI made 9 blocks. It was a great evening for American point guard Derek Williams (185-85, college: SMU) who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points and 9 assists. His fellow American import forward Mikael Hopkins (206, college: Georgetown) helped adding 10 points, 14 rebounds and 8 blocks. Four Istanbul DSI players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Justin Knox (205-89, college: N.Carolina) with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Zafer Alp (186-94) scored 9 points and 9 assists. Istanbul DSI maintains seventeenth place with 7-20 record. Loser Final Genclik keeps the fifteenth position with 18 games lost. Istanbul DSI will face bottom-ranked Adanaspor (#18) on the road in the next round.
