Regular Season Round 19: Konjice - Crnomelj 80-96

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when eighth ranked Crnomelj (9-9) defeated on the road 7th ranked Konjice (9-10) 96-80. It looked good early as Konjice took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Crnomelj had a 22-15 second period charge getting the lead and Konjice was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 80-96. Crnomelj made 24-of-29 charity shots (82.8 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Konjice helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was an exceptional evening for guard Nejc Butala (190-93) who led the winners and scored 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Martin Mezan (197-93) accounted for 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the winning side. Five Crnomelj players scored in double figures. Forward Gasper Sevsek (198-93) came up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds and center Crt Lipovsek (194-88) added 22 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks respectively for Konjice in the defeat. Konjice's coach Slobodan Benic tested ten players seeing no chance for a win. Crnomelj moved-up to seventh place. Konjice lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the eighth position with ten games lost. Crnomelj's next round opponent will be higher ranked Triglav (#3) in Kranj and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Konjice will play on the road against Plama Pur (#6) in Ilirska Bistrica and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
