Regular Season Round 31: Gussing - Gmunden 80-74

A Bundesliga top team - Gussing Knights (27-4) added another victory to their record on Friday. This time they beat eighth ranked Gmunden Swans (12-19) 80-74. Gmunden Swans were trailing by 13 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 23-15 charge of Gussing Knights, which allowed them to win the game. They made 26-of-28 free shots (92.9 percent) during the game, while Gmunden Swans only scored eight points from the stripe. They outrebounded Gmunden Swans 35-23 including 25 on the defensive glass. American-Ivorian forward Dane Watts (203-86) fired a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. International point guard Thomas Klepeisz (185-91, agency: HMS) chipped in 16 points and 5 assists (made all of his eight free throws). Four Gussing Knights players scored in double figures. Canadian center Chris McLaughlin (208-92) produced 15 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and international point guard Daniel Friedrich (181-92) added 13 points and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 27-4 record. Loser Gmunden Swans keep the eighth position with 19 games lost. They share it with Kapfenberg. Gussing Knights will meet Furstenfeld Panthers (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Gmunden Swans will play against Arkadia Lions in Traiskirchen and hope to secure a win.
