There was a small surprise when fifteenth ranked Estoril Basket (5-7) won against on the road 13th ranked Guifoes (6-7) 59-49 on Friday. Guifoes were trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 20-5 charge of Estoril Basket, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Guifoes to just 5 points in fourth quarter. Guifoes were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Sergio Lugo Santos (198-92) orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Ricardo Alpuim (191-88) contributed with 5 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Paulo Sereno (197-96) replied with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds and Mario Meireles (184-96) added 15 points in the effort for Guifoes. Guifoes' coach Nuno Filipe Gomes Freitas gave the chance to play for eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Newly promoted Estoril Basket maintains fifteenth position in Places 9-16 with 5-7 record. Loser Guifoes dropped to the fourteenth place with seven games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
