Regular Season Round 30: Istanbul DSI - Gelisim 77-84

There was no surprise when 17th ranked Istanbul DSI (8-22) was defeated at home by ninth ranked Gelisim (14-16) 84-77 on Friday. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 84-77. American center Marvin Jefferson (206-86, college: Idaho) had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Emir Gokalp (185-95) chipped in 13 points and 7 assists during the contest. Five Gelisim players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Mikael Hopkins (206, college: Georgetown) with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks and his fellow American import point guard Derek Williams (185-85, college: SMU) scored 20 points and 7 assists. Istanbul DSI's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Gelisim moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Socar Petkim. Loser Istanbul DSI keeps the seventeenth position with 22 games lost. Gelisim will face Eskisehir Basket (#12) in Edirne in the next round. Istanbul DSI will play on the road against Pertevniyal (#11) in Istanbul and hope to win that game.
