Regular Season Round 25: Balkan - Spartak Pleven 95-74

There was no surprise in Botevgrad where 5th ranked Spartak Pleven (11-14) was crushed by second ranked Balkan (19-6) 95-74. The game was mostly controlled by Balkan. Spartak Pleven was better in fourth quarter 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Spartak Pleven 38-21 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Balkan players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Spartak Pleven's players. It was a very good performance for American guard Brandon Fortenberry (190-90, college: SE Louisiana, agency: Beo Basket) who helped to win the game recording 20 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Serbian power forward Dusan Cvetkovic (205-89, agency: Beo Basket) contributed with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Five Balkan players scored in double figures. Balkan's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Power forward Dimitar Marincheshki (200-90) answered with 15 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Montenegrin-Serbian center Milovan Savic (205-87) added 11 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Spartak Pleven. Balkan have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 19-6 record having four points less than leader Lukoil Acad., which they share with Beroe. Spartak Pleven at the other side dropped to the sixth position with 14 games lost. Balkan will play against Levski 2014 (#7) in Sofia in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Spartak Pleven will play at home against Yambol and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
